You must thoroughly understand the guidelines in Special Instruction, REHS5606, "Installation and Operation of the Caterpillar Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) and the Diagnostic Module for Non-Road Machine Applications (Non-California Applications)" before you attempt any part of the following installation procedure.The installation procedure that follows is specific for the listed machines.Diesel Particulate Filter Installation

Remove the existing muffler assembly (16), pipe assembly (17), and bracket assembly (18) and discard these parts. Refer to the appropriate Disassembly and Assembly manual for your machine. Set aside four bolts (19), four hard washers (20), and muffler clamp (21). The four bolts (19) and four hard washers (20) will be reused in Step 3. Muffler clamp (20) will be reused in Step 11. Refer to Illustration 3.

Position new 279-9016 Filter Bracket As (3) in the former location for bracket assembly (18). Refer to Illustration 3.
Secure filter bracket assembly (3) by reinstalling four bolts (19), and four hard washers (20) which were removed in Step 1. Refer to Illustration 3.
Position 279-9064 Filter Bracket As (4) onto 279-9016 Filter Bracket As (3). Refer to Illustration 4.
Install a 7X-7729 Washer (6) onto each one of the two 8T-5005 Bolts (8). Insert the two bolts through the mating holes of filter bracket assembly (3) and filter bracket assembly (4). Refer to Illustration 4.

(5) 279-6438 Clamp As (Lower half) (6) 7X-7729 Washer (7) 260-6673 Bolt (9) 285-4082 Vibration Damper
Install a 7X-7729 Washer (6) onto each one of the two 260-6673 Bolts (7). Insert the two bolts through the two mounting hole at the top of filter bracket assembly (4). Refer to Illustration 5.
Install one 285-4082 Vibration Damper (9) onto each of the two bolts (7) and two bolts (8). Refer to Illustration 4 and Illustration 5.
Remove the two bolts, two hard washers, and two weld nuts from each 279-6438 Clamp As (5). Keep these parts together with the upper half of clamp assembly (5). These parts will be reinstalled in Step 12.
Install the lower half of 279-6438 Clamp As (5) at the top of filter bracket assembly (4) by using two bolts (7). Refer to Illustration 4 and Illustration 5.

(5) 279-6438 Clamp As (Lower half) (6) 7X-7729 Washer (7) 260-6673 Bolt (9) 285-4082 Vibration Damper
Install a 7X-7729 Washer (6) onto each one of the two 260-6673 Bolts (7). Insert the two bolts through the two mounting hole at the top of filter bracket assembly (4). Refer to Illustration 5.
Install one 285-4082 Vibration Damper (9) onto each of the two bolts (7) and two bolts (8). Refer to Illustration 4 and Illustration 5.
Remove the two bolts, two hard washers, and two weld nuts from each 279-6438 Clamp As (5). Keep these parts together with the upper half of clamp assembly (5). These parts will be reinstalled in Step 12.
Install the lower half of 279-6438 Clamp As (5) at the top of filter bracket assembly (4) by using two bolts (7). Refer to Illustration 4 and Illustration 5.
