Before installation of the new engine, it will be necessary to exchange some parts between the old and new engines to adapt the new engine to a specific machine. This instruction gives the procedure needed according to machine model, for installation of the replacement engine. When a part is removed from the old engine for use on the new engine, make a good inspection of that part. If reconditioning of a part is needed, do it before the part is installed on the new engine. Make reference to the Service Manual for specifications needed during any reconditioning procedures and for parts installation. It will be necessary to check and/or adjust the fuel setting dimension. See the FUEL SETTING INFORMATION for the correct dimensions for fuel system adjustments. A 4N4224 Governor Spring and a 6N581 Torque Control Group are installed in the fuel injection pump and governor of this engine, at the factory. If a governor spring and/or torque control group with a different part number are needed, according to engine application, see the Service Manual for the procedure needed to change these parts. Make reference to a Parts Book and/or see the chart that follows for governor spring or torque control group needed for specific machines. 941B 80H3884-Up
(1) Remove the engine from the machine; see the Service Manual for the procedure. Put both engines, new and old, in a position that will give good access to their front, rear, top and both sides. For those engines that were equipped with glow plugs, either remove the wire from the heat-start switch to the glow plug lead assembly, or put tape over the end of the wire when it is disconnected. This wire will not be needed because the new engine does not have glow plugs.(2) From the old engine, remove the crankshaft pulley and hub, engine front support, the rear supports (from the sides of the flywheel housing) and the flywheel. Install these parts on the new replacement engine.(3) Remove the oil level gauge and guide from the old engine and exchange it with the one on the new engine. (The new engine must use the same part number oil level gauge and guide that was used with the old engine). (4) Remove transmission oil cooler (1), pipe (2) and oil filter base (3) from the original engine. Remove the similar parts (water elbow, engine oil cooler and engine oil filter base) from the new engine arrangement. Exchange these parts between the engines.(5) Exchange the lubrication oil filler tube of the two engines. Remove the water pump from each engine and exchange them also. (6) Remove exhaust elbow (4), air inlet pipe (5), regulator housing (6) and regulator (7) from the original engine, and exchange these parts with the similar parts from the new engine. (7) Remove
